Keynote Speakers

Professor Bill Gammage is an emeritus professor in the Humanities Research Centre at the Australian National University. In 2012 he was awarded the Prime Minister’s Prize In Australian History for his book, ‘The largest estate on earth’ which researches Aboriginal approaches to land management.

Bruce Pascoe is a Bunurong, Tasmanian and Yuin man who has published 31 books. His most recent book ‘Dark Emu’ was awarded the 2016 New South Wales Premier’s prize in non-fiction, it documents Aboriginal approaches to land, river and environment management, calling into question the idea that Aboriginal people were merely hunter gatherers.

Uncle Max ‘Dulamunmun’ Harrison is an initiated Yuin man and widely respected Aboriginal elder. He has been on the National Board of Elders and has released several books on Aboriginal Culture including ‘My Peoples Dreaming’. He is a recognised teacher at the University of Wollongong.

Uncle Noel Butler is a Budawang Elder of the Yuin Nation, South Coast NSW. Noel is a Master Baker and Pastry chef, qualified teacher, horticulturalist, visual and performing artist and has been teaching all aspects of Indigenous Culture for over 30 years. Noel has vast and varied knowledge on Aboriginal history along with Bush Foods and their uses including medicinal.

John Holmes studied Chinese medicine in the late 1980’s and Anthroposophic Massage in the mid 1990’s. John has previously taught Acupuncture and is currently teaching Anthroposophic Massage in Northern NSW. He is in private practice in the southern highlands of NSW.

Peter Swain is a Warrambinga Wiradjuri Dabee man. He has been making boomerangs since childhood and was taught by his grandfather. Peter has been doing talks on stone tools since he was in kindergarten, taking his family’s collection for show n tell. He has been teaching tool making for the last ten years and also makes and plays didgeridoo.

Dr Swami Shankardev Saraswati graduated from medical school in 1977 and lived for 10 years at an ashram in India. He returned to Australia to integrate yoga, mediation and spiritual philosophy into western medical science. He has been practising yoga for forty years and is in private practice at the Paddington Medical Centre.

This passion for yoga led her to study in Chennai, India in 2007, with A.G. and Indrah Mohan, Svastha Yoga & Ayurveda, where she gained her qualifications in yoga and yoga therapy.
